
Employment Opportunities Buffalo Trace Park Manager Incumbent serves as Park Manager for the Buffalo Trace Park within the Harrison County Park Department and is responsible for daily operations and administration of park. DUTIES: Supervises, directs and oversees work of park employees including scheduling work assignments, directing implementation of park projects and ensuring compliance with departmental objectives. Assists in hiring, training and evaluating seasonal employees and recommends disciplinary measures as needed. Assists Park Superintendent in evaluating park facilities and grounds, reports findings, and schedules improvement projects, as required. Maintains payroll records for seasonal employees including hours worked and absence report and forwards to Administrative Office as required. Supervises and assists maintenance crew in upkeep and maintenance of park buildings, grounds and equipment including painting, mowing grass, trimming and cutting shrubs, and repair of equipment as necessary. Designs, prepares cost estimations and implements new construction and maintenance projects. Assists with inspection and maintenance of park vehicles and equipment, researches options for new purchases and reports recommendation to Park Superintendent. Assists with preparation of departmental budget, especially for their respective park and implements portion of budget upon approval. Maintains inventory of equipment and concession and office supplies for park and re-orders upon approval. Promotes awareness of park projects and park activities in community including but not limited to taking school groups through trails, making slide presentations to community and attending Park Board and Advisory Board meetings as required. Schedules use of park for different functions, prepares reports and correspondence including daily activity reports, daily logs of chemical use and portion of annual report as required. Periodically attends training seminars, conferences and workshops to maintain awareness of new park management techniques and literature. Performs related duties as assigned. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of departmental practices and procedures obtained through extended experience and ability to maintain park in good condition and ensure proper completion of park projects. Working knowledge and ability to operate all equipment and vehicles used by department and ability to perform necessary inspections of vehicles and equipment. Knowledge of basic bookkeeping and ability to maintain accurate files and records. Familiarity with Excel Ability to train, supervise, direct and evaluate work of subordinates. Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle. Ability to communicate with departmental staff, county and state governmental offices, community organizations and businesses and members of the general public in tactful and courteous manner. DIFFICULTY OF WORK: Incumbent is required to exercise independent judgment in making decisions and recommendations to oversee and direct the maintenance operations of county parks. Incumbent is responsible for a wide variety of operations requiring protection of tools, equipment, buildings, grounds and safety of others. RESPONSIBILITY: Incumbent receives general instructions and is responsible for directing operations for the park and implementing policies and procedures in manner consistent with Park Department goals and objectives. Work is reviewed to determine overall soundness of judgment and attainment of objectives. PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS: Incumbent maintains frequent contact with department superiors and subordinates personnel, vendors and members of general public for a variety of purposes, including coordination and direction of park operations and personnel, purchase of equipment and materials, development of budget, and building community support for the park. OTHER: Incumbent perforns duties both in and out of doors, and is required to supervise crews in varying weather conditions. Field inspections and operation of heavy equipment exposes incumbent to moderate amounts of dust, dirt and noises and necessitates constant awareness of appropriate safety precaution to ensure against injury. Reports directly to Park Superintendent. |
